The Wachowski sisters originally imagined Switch as a character who would be male in the real world and female in the Matrix. There is one more interesting bit of naming trivia, and that's with the character of Switch. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays an alternate version of Morpheus in The Matrix Resurrections, as original actor Laurence Fishburne was reportedly not asked to reprise his role. By combining layered theming and expert filmmaking craft the Wachowski sisters were able to create a fresh take on the classic hero's journey, and even after so many years people are still able to find new meanings in the original text. It follows a computer hacker named Neo who discovers that the world is actually a computer simulation, and he joins a band of freedom fighters who battle against the machines who have enslaved the human race. The Matrix was released over twenty years ago, and quickly became one of the most influential and important Hollywood films of the 21st century. Some of these naming details are well known but others are more obscure.
